The Art of Cake

If you’ve ever wondered how we come up with such unique designs, the first place you’ll want to look is the drawing board. Literally. In addition to the joy of making a real bride and groom happy, we get to make display cakes where we really get to unleash our creativity and cake skills. Always romantic, but almost never the same, the themes given to us are the ultimate source of sweet inspiration. To give you a better idea of the design origins of our cakes, here are a few sketches of recently featured ones.

Inspired Bride Showcase: Parisian Romance

Utilizing traditional European motifs, our goal was to convey the opulence of Paris without being too ostentatious or over-the-top. Incorporating eclectic elements like the textured ribbon and the birdcage topper helped bring the design back to a more soft and relatable tone.

StudioWed Vignette: Winter Wonderland

Though we were given a storyboard for the setting, we truly drew inspiration from the timeless fairy tale romance of Snow White. With the popularity of contemporary re-imaginings like Snow White & the Huntsman and Once Upon A Time, it was high time we made a design that indulged fantasy. Falling red rose petals in white snow is a simply stunning combination that makes us feel cozy and wistful.

Southern Charm: Magnolia Bloom

It’s a given. Everyone loves flowers! When asked to create something based upon Southern blooms, what else could we do but a bunch of sugar flowers? To truly highlight the large and stately petals of the Magnolia, we just drew pattern inspiration from textiles to create the backdrop to the floral arrangement. Sometimes simplicity is just the best way to go.
