Real Wedding Cake: Leauna & Eron

Nothing makes us happier than seeing the final photos from a beautiful wedding and a memorable wedding cake. Leauna and Eron tied the knot last August and we’ve been dying to share their cakes since then!

The wedding cake was a towering beauty iced in our traditional buttercream with black fondant accents. In between each tier is a lovely combination of hydrangeas and roses to match the ceremony decor. These classic motifs set against the urban industrial feel of The Foundry at Puritan Mill create a wonderful juxtaposition of soft and strong.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we created a custom groom’s cake – an homage to Eron’s love of Ralph Lauren polos!

Okay, we lied. There is something that makes us happier than seeing these photos… making a beautiful couple’s cake dreams come true!

We’re Game for Groom’s Cakes

A Wedding Cake Blog honored us by featuring one of our favorite groom’s cakes to date – the Settler’s of Catan cake!

Nothing excites us more than a challenge and groom’s cakes are almost always the ones that get our hearts (and minds) racing! This particular cake was a surprise from the bride to her game-loving groom. We had never heard of The Settlers of Catan game before, but the bride surely enlightened us! We soon found out just how many people are fanatical about this game and so we knew we had to do her and her groom justice.

In order for us to get the proper game set-up on the cake, the bride taught us exactly how to play the game – down to what pieces can move where and what tiles can be next to others! We were quite nervous in the beginning, but once she sent us pictures of game pieces in progress, this helped tremendously.

Of course, we could have printed out the board game graphics and merely laid them on top of a cake. But we knew that the whole point of the surprise was to truly recreate the game, by hand. And so we did just that! Each tile is a hand-painted hexagon made out of fondant, as is the board game layout itself. We did our absolute best to recreate the terrain illustrations in the actual game and so we felt a little bit like we were art students, re-creating a master work.

We couldn’t have been happier with the results. And the groom, of course, was absolutely stunned and enthralled by it. As you can imagine, it was hard for them to cut into it and ruin a perfectly good game!

The Perks of Being a Groom

Usually weddings are all about the bride – what the bride wants, what she’s always dreamed of – it’s her day. But when it comes to cake, grooms get their fair share of the spotlight as well. Believe it or not, some groom’s cakes even outshine their traditional counterparts. Whether he’s a sports enthusiast or a car lover, there’s sure to be a cake that’ll tickle his fancy.

Our Master Cake Engineer is quite the expert on making confectionary goods look like real life objects. We’ve done guitars, poker tables, guns, and more!

One of our more recent grooms had a thing for Ghirardelli… so what else would we do besides a giant Ghirardelli candy package?

Check out our groom’s cake gallery for more fun ideas for your soon-to-be-husband!
