Real Wedding Cake: Jenni & Mike

Nothing gives us more satisfaction than being part of a truly special wedding day. Jenni & Mike’s well-curated affair at Mason Murer Fine Art was one for the books. Jenni says, “I paint all the time, so an art gallery has a special place in my heart. But, the location in general was just something different, which is how Mike and I feel we are. Our relationship isn’t like anyone else’s, so we didn’t want our wedding to be either.”

Their choice to use an art gallery was perfect as an elegant backdrop to their modern eclectic style. Jenni’s love of sparkle led us to design a balanced combination of sugar crystals and sugar veil lace in an ivory and gold metallic color scheme.

A big thanks to Jenni and Mike for letting us contribute our own work of art to their unique celebration. We look forward to many more sparkling cakes to come!

Southern Charm

We are so proud that the Atlantan Brides Magazine chose to feature us in their newest seasonal issue! We were asked to create a design inspired by the traditional beauty of Southern blooms and oh boy, did we.

Traditional doesn’t have to mean boring and floral doesn’t have to mean trite. We wanted to come up with a design that would satisfy the eclectic taste of Southern brides through the use of a regal and timeless flower – the Magnolia. The result is a feeling of elegance and grace that is balanced with a connection to the earth and home.

The color scheme features a soft warm gold and ivory in modern textures. This serves as an subtle but stunning backdrop to a garland of sugar Magnolias which cascade down the front of the cake. By altering the cake shape and heights of the tiers, we gave this traditional theme a modern twist.

Everyone has a relationship to nature in some form or another. In various cultures, flowers are symbols of beauty, fertility, and peace – so it’s only natural that a floral motif will always be a part of wedding celebrations. From bouquets to centerpieces, the gathering of flowers means the gathering of health and happiness. And we’re happy to have made yet another beautiful design that speaks exactly to that!

Real Wedding Cake: Alicia & Lance

All that glitters… is cake. We’ve been dying to share this fully blinged-out wedding cake we did this past October! Even as we were making it, we knew this one was going to be special. Anything dripping in crystals is bound to turn some heads. The shape of this cake was custom-fitted to the bride’s vision. Each tier was iced in our traditional white buttercream and dressed to impress.

Wedding cakes are so often placed in random corners or plainly decorated areas that don’t do it justice. So you can imagine our excitement to see an entire environment custom made for our cake to reside. Andy Beach and EllyB blew it out of the water!

This is officially one of our most favorite cake set-ups to date. Anyone who reveres the art of cake and believes it deserves more attention like this, we salute you!

Cake at Any Age

Besides weddings, there are a ton of other occasions that call for cake! Birthdays, christenings, baby showers, puppy showers… or just your occasional rainy day. Very often these cakes are more challenging and thus more exciting for us. Here’s a glimpse into some of the various birthday cakes we’ve done in the past few months – for ages ranging 1 to 90!

This cake was for a happy little one’s 1st birthday. The turtle character and polka dot design were inspired by some adorable party stationary. And of course, the turtle topper was also a mini-smash cake for the birthday boy!

We’ve been doing Madeline’s birthday cake for years now and every year it gets better and better. “Vintage carnival” was the party theme, so we tried to tone down the colors to fit the pink & yellow elements of the decor. The topsy-turvy cake features so many elements, we don’t know where to look first!

When you get to a certain age, birthday cakes begin to seem childish. A great alternative to the standard “Happy Birthday message” is to take a pattern you love and make it edible. With chevron being one of the hottest trends of the year, it’s no wonder why this cake looks so modern and fresh. Sugar crystals top off the cake and give it that little bit of sparkle everyone needs in their life.

And when you turn 90 years old, there’s no reason NOT to celebrate! We first met Bill & Lou when we did their topsy turvy frog wedding cake. Needless to say, they were not your average senior citizens. For Bill’s 90th, Lou honed in on Bill’s love for music and took their beloved frog motif just one step further. Don’t ya just love them?

A special day calls for a special dessert. So call or email us and we’ll figure out how to make the perfect custom creation for your next celebration!

The Perks of Being a Groom

Usually weddings are all about the bride – what the bride wants, what she’s always dreamed of – it’s her day. But when it comes to cake, grooms get their fair share of the spotlight as well. Believe it or not, some groom’s cakes even outshine their traditional counterparts. Whether he’s a sports enthusiast or a car lover, there’s sure to be a cake that’ll tickle his fancy.

Our Master Cake Engineer is quite the expert on making confectionary goods look like real life objects. We’ve done guitars, poker tables, guns, and more!

One of our more recent grooms had a thing for Ghirardelli… so what else would we do besides a giant Ghirardelli candy package?

Snow Falling on Cake

If you’ve ever imagined your wedding being a fairy tale ending come true, this will be the scene for you. Inspired by the romantic notion of a classic winter wonderland, we collaborated with some of our fellow StudioWed vendors to craft a seasonal window display to remember.

Our goal was to create a cake that looked like it had been sitting out during a soft winter’s snowfall. Rose petals fall down the cake as time stands still. Wooden planks on the second tier match the rustic quality of the outdoor scene and fit perfectly with the barrel cake stand.

Our SW colleagues pulled out the big guns on this one! Complete with drop crystals, a fur runner, and mirrored tabletop, this window is dressed like none other. The cozy sofa seating adds to the luxury of this elegant setting.

FGC on Style Me Pretty

Style Me Pretty puts it best when they say “it’s the sweet and simple things in life that matter most”. As you can imagine, we completely agree. Who says your wedding cake has to have tons of bling, fondant, or scrolls to be elegant? Featured on SMP Georgia, this elegant garden wedding at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens shows that a little can really go a long (and beautiful) way. Their yellow & grey color scheme was perfect for the sunny summer wedding. Our simple buttercream and fondant cake design really allowed the lovebird topper to shine.

Grey & Garden Rose

In this day and age, coming up with a fresh and new color palette is hard to come by. Fortunately, there are professionals to do it for you! Most people might think “grey” is drab and boring, but paired with the right shade of pink, it can become crisp and elegant. We teamed up with Lemiga Events for a photoshoot in Occasions Magazine to show how this color combo can really shine.

Mimicking the feminine accents of an E. Lebron gown, we created a cake design featuring fondant ruffles, “puffy pillows”, and sugar flowers. The soft rose ruffles of the cake are tipped in silver while each pillow is a hand-made wonder.

Michelle Gainey’s theme of “City Chic Summer Romance” was the perfect scene for this opulent design.

A cake like this is sure to have your guests craving sweet satisfaction!

J’adore Cake

As a member of StudioWed, we had the wonderful opportunity to feature our newest cake design skills in the annual Inspired Bride event. Hosted at The Foundry at Puritan Mill, this afternoon of bridal luxury showcased four vignettes collaboratively created by StudioWed partners and inspired by romantic destination cities around the world. Our city of love was Paris and needless to say, we were simply enchanted.

This 4-tiered beauty features navy and gold fondant accents and an edible birdcage cake topper. In addition to this creation, we wanted to break some cake norms and illustrate a few other sweet options. Utilizing our brand new tree cake stand, we covered it in fondant and hand-painted the branches a soft shade of champagne gold. The result was a stunning foundation for a mix of small cakes and cupcakes!

That’s not all, folks! We also provided individual mini-cakes for each place setting at the gorgeous tablescape orchestrated by Lemiga Events, Jackson Durham, and The Funky Shack Art Studio. What could be more decadent than your own individual cake?
